TOWT’s commitment: decarbonising the maritime sector.

The urgency of climate change threatens us with an uncertain, even dystopian future. At TOWT, we want to contribute to the fight against global warming by doing our part to decarbonise maritime transport. The ANEMOS label is the proof of our commitment.

Why a label?

Pollution from shipping currently accounts for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If the sector does not change, emissions will rise to 17% by 2050. (See report)

The impacts of climate change are serious and very real. They will not arrive in a few decades. They are already here. Exceptional floods, dramatic droughts and losses in agricultural yields, increasing scarcity of water resources, an increase in wars and conflicts… all over the world, the effects are being felt. There is an urgent need for action.

At TOWT, we take this issue seriously. Maritime transport must evolve, there are no other options if we want to keep the planet liveable and habitable for the human race.

Sailing makes perfect sense because it uses the wind as its main source of energy. But we want to go further and promote and publicise this mode of transport through a label, the ANEMOS label.

The ANEMOS label, a credible and well-known label

TOWT created the ANEMOS label ([ἄνεμος ]), which means wind in ancient Greek. Today, it is the only transport label in the world that guarantees decarbonised sailing thanks to working sailboats.

The label is not new. TOWT has been using it for ten years to demonstrate the decarbonisation of the maritime sector and to prove that its products are indeed transported, for the most part, under sail.

Around the world, the label is spreading and gaining visibility. The ANEMOS label is already present in all four corners of the Atlantic, particularly in Latin America, the Caribbean, the Azores and Cornwall.

Our ambition at TOWT is to make the ANEMOS label an essential part of maritime transport and distribution. We want it to be known and recognised around the world for promoting the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.

We are currently working with several partners to help it grow and refine its legal and financial structure.

A marketing edge for shippers

ANEMOS is a unique certification label that provides both transparency and a marketing advantage for shippers:

Joining consumers and producers through dedicated and transparent transport, promoting origin, terroir and profession.

Transparency: a unique journey number and declaration of carbon dioxide emissions for each product transported.

« Jump on board » : an immersive experience and navigation storytelling (GPS tracking, photos, video, weather, loading, navigation options).
